It always strikes me as weird that what was once, not too long ago, an exclusive Catholic belief (anti abortion) is now embraced by many Protestant splinter groups as “truth” … and yet they still reject Catholicism, both then and now, as heresy.

It was and is basically a religious claim, opposition to a medical procedure.
